Underwriting Intern

About the role

The Underwriting Intern will provide supervised operational and administrative support to the underwriting team. This role involves reviewing proposal forms, verifying client documentation, capturing data, preparing policy documents, and handling routine follow‑up activities while gaining practical exposure to underwriting processes and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing proposal forms and client documentation for completeness, accuracy, KYC requirements, and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
• Support data capture, booking of approved retail policies, and issuance of motor certificates under supervision.
• Verify and organize underwriting records, including proposal forms, policy schedules, endorsements, and valuation reports in the document management system.
• Prepare routine policy documents, endorsements, renewal notices, and customer correspondence for review by the supervising underwriter.
• Track referred risks, pending renewals, endorsements, and outstanding requirements to ensure timely service delivery.
• Respond to routine customer, branch, and intermediary queries under guidance, escalating complex matters to senior underwriters.
• Assist in the preparation and dispatch of debit and credit notes in line with credit control procedures.
• Compile basic underwriting data and reports to aid senior underwriters in risk review and workflow monitoring.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (insurance option preferred); no prior experience required.
• Foundational knowledge of insurance processes and procedures is an advantage.
• Computer literate.
