Wastewater Treatment Operator

About the role
The City of Geneva is looking for a Wastewater Treatment Operator to join the Public Works Department at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Working under the plant supervisor, you will operate, maintain, and repair equipment to ensure the plant meets state and federal water quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Operate plant equipment such as pumps, clarifiers, digesters, centrifuges, and dump trucks.
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical systems.
- Collect, enter, and analyze process data using Excel or similar software.
- Take pre‑ and post‑treatment water samples and conduct laboratory tests (pH, dissolved oxygen, etc.).
- Monitor alarms, inspect lift stations, and respond to after‑hours emergencies.
- Assist with facility and grounds upkeep, including snow removal and salting.
Required profile
- High school diploma with a background in biology, math, or science.
- Experience with machinery, diagnostic testing, and general labor.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a Class A CDL within one year (tanker endorsement preferred).
- Class 4 Wastewater Operator Certification (or ability to obtain on‑the‑job).
Required skills
- Proficiency in Excel for data entry and analysis.
- Mechanical troubleshooting and equipment repair.
- Laboratory testing skills (pH, dissolved oxygen).
- Operation of wastewater treatment equipment.
