Accounting & Finance Associate

About the role

The Accounting & Finance Associate supports UNICEF Kenya’s financial management by ensuring accurate recording, reporting and oversight of resources. This position contributes directly to the efficient use of funds and enables sound decision‑making across programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and assist with financial reports, data compilation and queries to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Act as the local finance focal point, verifying invoices, calculations and submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre.
• Monitor and reconcile daily expenditures, balances and payments.
• Select, verify and enter data from diverse sources, guaranteeing completeness and accuracy.
• Produce scheduled and ad‑hoc reports for audits, budgets and other needs.
• Support year‑end account closure and preparation of financial statements.
• Provide guidance to staff and consultants on allowances, claims and other financial matters.
• Initiate correspondence to verify data and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain relationships with local banks, monitor exchange rates and prepare reconciliations.
• Assist with budget preparation, cost estimates and analysis for projects.

Required profile

• Completion of secondary education.
• Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience in finance and accounting.
• Ability to create and manage project plans, track resources and identify risks.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret data, spot issues and provide actionable insights.
