Africa Regional Advocacy Coordinator

About the role

The Africa Regional Advocacy Coordinator will lead the development, coordination and implementation of Amnesty International’s advocacy and lobbying activities across the continent. Reporting to the designated manager within the Research and Advocacy Programme, the role is based in either Nairobi or Dakar.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and evaluate regional advocacy strategies targeting AU organs, Regional Economic Communities and other African IGOs.
• Manage advocacy projects to ensure timely delivery within budget.
• Monitor, analyse and report on developments within the AU, APSA and the African Regional Human Rights System.
• Collaborate with researchers and campaigners to integrate advocacy messaging into research outputs.
• Lead Amnesty International’s participation in ACHPR sessions and other regional platforms.
• Align regional advocacy with international strategies and foster partnerships with civil‑society organisations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience engaging with African intergovernmental organisations, especially the AU, APSA and regional human‑rights treaty bodies.
• Proven track record producing analysis, policy briefs, position papers and other advocacy outputs.
• Deep knowledge of international law, human‑rights law and international humanitarian law.
• Ability to identify, analyse and seize advocacy opportunities.
