Assistant Project Manager – Construction

About the role

Independence Excavating is seeking a motivated Assistant Project Manager to support daily project administration and management on heavy civil construction and demolition sites. You will work closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent, handling purchase orders, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, and cost tracking while gaining experience toward a future Project Manager role.

Key responsibilities

• Read, interpret, and apply construction drawings and specifications.
• Prepare and analyze project schedules and cost codes.
• Coordinate permits, safety plans, and storm‑water pollution controls.
• Compile subcontractor and purchase order lists and maintain contact information.
• Facilitate communication with local officials and ensure compliance.
• Review and return submittals, manage change order requests, and prepare payment requisitions.
• Assist in equipment and crew planning, and coordinate material deliveries.
• Conduct progress meetings with owners and subcontractors.
• Monitor project profitability and update cost projections.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
• Effective communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.
