Assistant Project Officer (Clerk of Works) – Water and Construction

About the role

The Assistant Project Officer (Clerk of Works) will support the supervision and quality control of water‑related construction works in Baringo County. This fixed‑term position is open only to local residents and involves ensuring that all works meet approved designs, technical specifications, and donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction activities to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, contracts and industry standards.
• Inspect delivered materials and verify their conformity with project specifications.
• Monitor testing, commissioning and acceptance of completed facilities and systems.
• Review contractor work plans, schedules and ensure adherence to contractual obligations.
• Assist with site inspections, work measurement and processing of contractor payment requests.
• Coordinate with local authorities, project staff, contractors and community representatives.
• Prepare daily inspection notes, monthly technical progress reports and documentation for donor accountability.

Required profile

• Diploma in Civil, Water, Irrigation, Agricultural or Construction Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years experience in construction supervision and inspection of water infrastructure, pumping systems or pipelines.
• Experience with donor‑funded or NGO‑led rural water, irrigation or climate‑resilience projects is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety, environmental and social safeguards, and construction quality assurance procedures.
