Assistant Project Officer – JOSP Somalia Programme

About the role

The Assistant Project Officer will support the implementation, coordination and development of UNEP’s Somalia Country Programme, focusing on cross‑programme coordination, resource mobilisation, project development, communications and operational support for JOSP and its associated projects (RESTORE and Maareynta). The role is based in Nairobi and reports to the Programme Management team.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of the Somalia Country Programme and related initiatives.
• Coordinate cross‑programme activities and ensure alignment between JOSP, RESTORE and Maareynta.
• Assist in resource mobilisation and donor engagement activities.
• Develop and manage communication materials for programme visibility.
• Provide administrative and operational support to ensure timely delivery of project tasks.
• Monitor project pipelines and prepare progress reports.
• Liaise with partners, NGOs and UN agencies to facilitate effective collaboration.

Required profile

• University degree in environmental studies, international development or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in project coordination or programme support, preferably within UN or international NGOs.
• Strong written and oral English communication skills.
• Familiarity with the Somalia context and environmental programmes is an advantage.
