Boiler Operator

About the role

The Boiler Operator will work in the Engineering department of a manufacturing plant, reporting to the Lead Cogen. The role involves operating, monitoring and maintaining low and high pressure boilers that supply steam and hot water for various plant processes.

Key responsibilities

• Start‑up, shut‑down and routine operation of low and high pressure boilers.
• Monitor gauges, pressure and temperature readings and record all measurements.
• Inspect boiler pipes, valves, pumps and safety devices for leaks or malfunctions.
• Adjust control mechanisms and perform regular blow‑down to control solids and impurities.
• Test safety valves and high/low pressure safety controls.
• Supervise daily maintenance tasks such as greasing stokers, fans, motors and pneumatic systems.
• Manage boiler water chemistry: add chemicals, conduct conductivity, alkalinity, phosphate, silica, sulphate and hardness tests.
• Order and handle gas and oil deliveries as required.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical usage, fuel consumption, steam and hot‑water production.
• Cooperate with state inspectors and ensure compliance with fire and safety regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of hands‑on experience operating industrial boilers.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely with high‑pressure equipment.
• Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for reporting and coordination with supervisors and inspectors.
