Cathedral Director of Music

About the role

All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi is looking for a dedicated Director of Music to lead and develop its worship music programmes. The role combines artistic direction, administration and pastoral support to create a vibrant, inter‑generational worship experience.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all musical ensembles, including choirs, organists and assistant organists.
• Source, arrange and provide music for liturgical events in collaboration with the Worship Minister.
• Coordinate worship needs across the church calendar and programmes.
• Lead congregational singing at regular services.
• Play the organ for weddings, funerals and mid‑week services, or delegate as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of musicians’ honoraria and equipment inventories.
• Oversee maintenance and replacement of organs, pianos and other instruments.
• Manage the cathedral Music Library and long‑term organ sustainability.
• Recruit, train and develop organists, choristers and instrumentalists.
• Prepare and administer the annual music budget.
• Lead youth music programmes, including the primary school and Sunday School choirs.

Required profile

• Strong pastoral sensitivity and high emotional intelligence.
• Proven experience in choral directing and organ performance.
• Ability to plan strategically, manage budgets and supervise staff.
• Commitment to continuous professional development in music ministry.
