Development Coordination and Food System Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Development Coordination and Food System Consultant to support the implementation of the environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals across Africa. Based in Nairobi, the consultant will work with the Regional Development Coordination Unit to strengthen food system sustainability and enhance UNEP’s engagement with UN Country Teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for the development of Country Cooperation Agreements (CCAs) and the UN‑CF framework, integrating the six transition pathways to accelerate SDG implementation.
• Coordinate and support the outcomes of the 2nd UN Resident Coordinator dialogue, ensuring UNEP’s enhanced assistance to UNCTs and UNRC systems.
• Offer technical and advisory assistance between the Regional Development Coordination Unit, Results Groups, UN Resident Coordinators and national institutions.
• Back‑stop UNCT food‑policy mechanisms in Africa, aligning with UNEP’s delivery model to strengthen country engagements and visibility.
• Deliver capacity‑building activities on UNCT food‑policy mechanisms in response to requests from UN Resident Coordinator Offices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in development coordination, preferably within UN or multilateral environments.
• Strong understanding of food system sustainability, climate action, biodiversity and land‑water management.
• Excellent analytical and advisory skills, with ability to work across diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to produce high‑quality technical documents and facilitate capacity‑building workshops.
