About the role
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking an Early Warning Expert on a six‑month consultancy basis to support the implementation of the Water at the Heart of Climate Action (WHCA) project in Uganda. Working remotely, the consultant will collaborate with national stakeholders, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the WHCA consortium to strengthen multi‑hazard early warning systems and community resilience to water‑related climate hazards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the roll‑out of the early warning component of the WHCA project in Uganda, focusing on risk knowledge and coordination with other thematic pillars.
- Support the establishment and operationalisation of Uganda’s national situation room and its linkage to Emergency Coordination Centres and the Africa Multi‑Hazard Early Warning and Action System (AMHEWAS).
- Coordinate WHCA activities in partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister, UNDRR, and the consortium coordinator.
- Plan and deliver WHCA country‑project activities, strengthening multi‑hazard early warning systems and community resilience.
- Facilitate capacity development, risk data governance, and technical assessments.
- Provide logistical and technical support for capacity‑building workshops and consultations with government and local stakeholders.
- Assist with data maturity assessments, risk data governance, and training on multi‑hazard risk assessments.
Required profile
- Proven experience in early warning systems, disaster risk reduction, and climate‑action projects.
- Experience working with UN agencies, government ministries, and multi‑stakeholder consortia.
- Strong background in coordinating multi‑hazard early warning initiatives and capacity‑building programmes.
