Financial Controller – Xero Certified (Australia)

About the role

The client, a fast‑growing e‑commerce and consumer products business, is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead finance operations for its Australian market. You will manage the in‑house bookkeeping team, ensure accurate reporting, and maintain system integrity across all accounting and payroll functions.

Key responsibilities

• Directly manage and mentor the in‑house Bookkeeper, reviewing reconciliations, payroll, AP batches and Cin7 Omni updates.
• Prepare monthly management accounts with commentary, variance analysis and performance insights.
• Maintain Fathom reporting, perform balance‑sheet reconciliations (PayPal, Shopify, Stripe, Afterpay, inventory), and oversee inventory reconciliation between Cin7 Omni and Xero.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow planning, analysing budget vs actual performance.
• Oversee AP processes, invoice review, aged payables reporting and ABA payment files.
• Review and approve fortnightly payroll, superannuation, STP submissions and coordinate workers‑compensation renewal.
• Manage Xero integrations with banks, Cin7 Omni and payment gateways, resolving sync issues.
• Liaise with external accountants for year‑end compliance and tax preparation.

Required profile

• CPA or CA qualified (or progressing toward qualification).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Financial Controller or senior accounting role.
• Strong experience supporting Australian businesses (GST, BAS, STP, superannuation).
• Experience in multi‑entity or global environments with FX and currency transactions.
