Fleet Maintenance Technician

About the role

The City of Geneva is looking for a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician to join its Public Works Fleet Division. This full‑time position works Monday‑Friday, 7 am‑3 pm, maintaining a diverse fleet of municipal vehicles and equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform skilled repairs and preventative maintenance on a wide range of vehicles, including law‑enforcement cars, fire apparatus, dump trucks, backhoes, cranes, ambulances and snow‑removal equipment.
• Repair, rebuild and replace engines, power‑train, hydraulic, steering, brake, ABS, electrical and emission‑control components.
• Diagnose complex systems such as fuel delivery, ignition, ABS, SRS, HVAC, lighting and emission controls using schematics and diagnostic tools.
• Conduct routine inspections, oil changes, fluid checks, tire service, belt and brake replacements, and hydraulic system upkeep.
• Use welding, brazing, plasma cutting and fabrication equipment to repair or fabricate parts.
• Install seasonal equipment (snow plows, salt spreaders, snow tires) and additional electrical safety systems (brake controllers, radios, cameras).
• Maintain and repair small tools and field‑operation equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including snow and ice operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in fleet or heavy‑equipment maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
• Capability to work safely with lifting equipment and heavy tools.
• Flexibility to perform a variety of tasks in a fast‑paced municipal environment.

Required skills

• Welding, brazing and plasma‑cutting.
• Use of diagnostic scanners, lab scopes, KV monitors and exhaust‑gas analyzers.
• Proficiency with lifting equipment (jacks, hoists, stands).
• Knowledge of hydraulic, brake, ABS, SRS, HVAC and emission‑control systems.
• Experience with power tools (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) and fabrication equipment.
• Familiarity with diagnostic software such as All Data, Pro Link, Service Maxx, EZ Tech, Snap‑On and Bosch tools.
