Global Technical Lead – Digital Futures

About the role

The Global Technical Lead will provide strategic technical leadership for a multi‑country programme that builds digital skills and creates employment pathways for young people with disabilities across East, West and Southern Africa. The role also champions disability inclusion in workplaces and labour markets and represents Sightsavers as a subject‑matter expert in digital inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of digital‑skills and employment interventions for youth with disabilities in seven African countries.
• Collaborate with fellow Global Technical Leads and implementing partners to ensure cohesive, high‑impact programme delivery.
• Shape and pilot innovative initiatives that improve the quality, relevance and sustainability of Sightsavers’ work.
• Contribute to cross‑organisational research, policy, advocacy and communications efforts.
• Represent Sightsavers at senior‑level forums, conferences and networks on digital inclusion and the digital economy.
• Travel up to 12 weeks per year to support programme activities and stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher (PhD preferred) in digital economy, digital policy, development studies, labour studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated understanding of AI and digital technologies and their impact on skills, employment and labour markets in African and Global South contexts.
• Experience leading digital‑skills or employment programmes in the Global South, preferably within NGOs or donor‑funded projects.
• Proven ability to engage private‑sector and labour‑market stakeholders to improve employment outcomes.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
