Ground Cargo / Freight Supervisor

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Ground Cargo / Freight Supervisor to lead freight and cargo operations for a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient handling of all cargo, including hazardous materials.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise cargo‑loading services and ensure timely, accurate loading.
• Guarantee vehicles transporting ammunition, explosives, dangerous goods and HAZMAT meet NAVSEA OP‑2239, FMCSR and other DOT regulations.
• Oversee packing and marking of unclassified retrograde items per NAVSUP Publications 700 and 485.
• Maintain proper shipment documentation and proof of shipment records for retrograde items.
• Manage freight terminal operations – preparation, loading, unloading, consolidation and shipment by air, sea and ground.
• Lead a dedicated Freight Forwarding Office to coordinate receipt, storage and shipment of materials.
• Conduct quality‑assurance inspections to verify safety and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and verify manifests, bills of lading and packing lists.
• Resolve loading or transportation issues, including damaged equipment and improper packing.
• Train and lead freight and cargo personnel, coordinate with government, vendors and internal departments, and maintain accurate operational records.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years experience in cargo‑loading, freight terminal operations or transportation services.
• Previous supervisory or team‑lead experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cargo preparation, loading and unloading for air, sea and ground transport.
• Familiarity with military freight and logistics operations.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NAVSEA OP‑2239 regulations.
• Understanding of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
• Familiarity with NAVSUP Publications 700 and 485.
• HAZMAT handling and safety compliance.
• Cargo documentation (manifests, bills of lading, packing lists).
