About the role

The Library Coordinator is seeking a dedicated Librarian to manage the community library in Kawangware. The role supports SHOFCO’s mission to provide education and learning resources in slum areas, ensuring the library operates smoothly and meets the needs of its users.

Key responsibilities

• Research, select, and acquire library materials that align with community needs.
• Develop and run outreach programs and special initiatives.
• Prepare budgetary information and regular reports.
• Open the library on schedule and maintain a welcoming environment.
• Catalogue, classify, and maintain materials using bar codes and call numbers.
• Assist patrons in locating resources, fulfilling requests, and providing reference services.
• Enter and regularly update data in the library management system.
• Return books to shelves, repair damaged items, and keep the catalogue current.
• Induct new users, offering comprehensive information about library services.

Required profile

• Certificate in Library and Information Science.
• At least one year of experience delivering library services.
• Ability to manage a library collection and support user needs.
• Record‑management skills are an advantage.

Required skills

• Catalogue and classify materials using bar codes and call numbers.
• Maintain and update library database entries.
• Provide reference and information assistance to patrons.
