Marine Sandblaster & Painter

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Sandblaster & Painter to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves preparing, restoring, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces of marine vessels, equipment, and facilities to ensure corrosion protection and structural integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by sanding, scuffing, scraping, wire‑brushing, grinding, stripping, or abrasive blasting.
• Perform sandblasting to remove rust, old coatings, marine growth and other contaminants.
• Apply primers, sealers, paints, stains, varnishes, enamels, epoxies and specialty marine coatings using brushes, rollers or spray equipment.
• Mask surrounding equipment, protect areas with drop cloths and tape, and fill cracks or holes with approved fillers.
• Remove and reinstall fixtures, hardware and lighting components as needed.
• Smooth finished surfaces with sandpaper, steel wool or power sanding tools to achieve required finish quality.
• Waterproof structures using approved membranes and sealants.
• Read and interpret work orders, technical drawings and specifications.
• Inspect completed work for compliance with quality and coating standards.
• Work safely from ladders, scaffolding or elevated platforms and maintain equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.

Required profile

• Ability to perform abrasive blasting and surface preparation on metal, wood and composite substrates.
• Experience applying protective and decorative marine coatings.
• Familiarity with reading technical drawings, specifications and work orders.
• Capability to work at heights and follow strict safety and environmental procedures.
• Physical stamina to handle manual tasks and operate heavy equipment.
