About the role

The British Army Training Unit Kenya is seeking a skilled Mason to carry out construction, refurbishment and maintenance tasks on its facilities. You will work on a variety of masonry projects, ensuring compliance with local codes and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and calculate material requirements.
• Lay bricks, stone or similar materials to build or refurbish walls, arches, chimneys and other structures.
• Apply and smooth mortar or other mixtures, and operate mixers, saws, drills and other power tools.
• Erect scaffolding or set up ladders for work at height.
• Conduct method statements, risk assessments and ensure health‑and‑safety compliance on site.
• Inspect existing masonry, diagnose repair needs and advise the Chain of Command.
• Plan and estimate labour and material quantities for each job.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and ensure proper use and storage of PPE and tools.

Required profile

• Minimum Trade Test 1 in Masonry or a recognised brick‑laying course.
• At least three years of practical masonry experience.
• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods and work in adverse conditions.
