MSC Riding Gang Welder, ABS Certified

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced MSC Riding Gang Welder with ABS certification to support a U.S. Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves performing shipboard welding, cutting, and fabrication to maintain, repair, and preserve MSC vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Execute ABS‑certified welding on structural components, piping, foundations, brackets, bulkheads, and other shipboard assemblies.
• Perform repairs using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and oxy‑fuel cutting equipment in line with ABS, Navy, and MSC standards.
• Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings to complete tasks accurately.
• Prepare work areas, set up equipment, and follow fire‑watch and ventilation procedures.
• Carry out structural reinforcement, crack repairs, insert installations, and general steel replacement aboard vessels.
• Maintain welding tools, PPE, consumables, and accurate logs of material usage and activities.
• Adhere to all safety, hot‑work, confined‑space, and shipboard operational requirements.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of shipboard or industrial welding experience.
• Current or previously held ABS welding certification for structural or pipe welding.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional welding or marine maintenance training preferred.
• Valid passport (minimum one year beyond hire date) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to meet contract medical requirements and obtain necessary facility credentials.
