Senior Binder I

About the role

The Senior Binder I is responsible for binding and restoring library books and documents at Kisii University. This full‑time, onsite position supports the university’s library services by ensuring the longevity and accessibility of its collections. The role requires a degree in Printing or Bookbinding and substantial experience in the field.

Key responsibilities

• Bind new library books, journals, and other documents using appropriate binding techniques to meet the university’s quality standards.
• Restore and repair damaged or deteriorating books and archival materials, ensuring their longevity and usability.
• Maintain and calibrate binding equipment, performing routine checks and troubleshooting to minimise downtime.

Required profile

• Minimum of six (9) years of relevant experience in bookbinding or printing, including at least three years at the Senior Binder II level or an equivalent senior position.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Printing Technology, Bookbinding, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• Consistently demonstrated high performance and merit in previous roles, as evidenced by work results and evaluations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in advanced bookbinding techniques, including case binding, perfect binding, and restoration methods.
• Strong knowledge of printing technology processes and equipment operation.
• Familiarity with document preservation standards and materials handling.
