Owner’s Engineer – Large‑Scale Solar PV & BESS

About the role

The Owner’s Engineer acts as the technical representative of PowerGen, providing independent engineering oversight for large‑scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects from design through commissioning and performance verification.

Key responsibilities

• Validate technical studies, including site selection, resource assessment, topographical, geotechnical and grid interconnection analyses.
• Review and approve EPC engineering designs, PV plant layout, BESS sizing, and energy yield modelling.
• Oversee construction quality, conduct site inspections, and monitor QA/QC procedures for PV arrays, inverters, substations and BESS containers.
• Lead FAT, SAT and commissioning activities, witnessing tests and ensuring compliance with performance guarantees.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or related field.
• 10–15 years of experience in utility‑scale solar PV and battery storage projects, including at least three projects >30 MW and one >100 MW.
• Proven experience as an Owner’s Engineer, Independent Engineer or Lender’s Engineer on hybrid solar‑BESS assets.

Required skills

• PVsyst, Helioscope, HOMER for PV yield modelling.
• ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD for power system studies.
• SCADA and EMS design and integration.
• Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards, grid codes and utility interconnection requirements.
