Project Commercial Head – Solar & Substation EPC

About the role

Master Power Systems Limited (MPSL) is looking for an experienced Project Commercial Head to lead commercial oversight for its Solar EPC, Substation EPC and large MEP projects across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. The role is focused on protecting project margins, managing variations, claims and cash‑flow, and providing independent commercial advice to project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly profitability forecasts for individual projects and the overall portfolio.
• Track revenue, cost, margin and programme against approved budgets; identify overruns, FX exposure and commercial risks.
• Maintain an entitlement register for variations, additional scope, delays, disruption and escalation events.
• Support the Head of Contracts in preparing and substantiating claims with commercial evidence.
• Ensure timely invoicing, certification and collection of payments; monitor debtors, retentions, advances and bonds.
• Prepare monthly cash‑flow forecasts and align supplier/sub‑contractor commitments with client cash inflows.
• Maintain a quantified commercial risk register, monitoring liquidated damages, performance guarantees, FX and equipment pricing risks.
• Review project instructions, drawing changes and client events for commercial impact and ensure contract compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in commercial management of EPC or large‑scale MEP projects, preferably in the power or renewable energy sector.
• Strong understanding of project finance, cost control, variation management and claim processes.
• Ability to work closely with Project Managers, Contracts and finance teams to protect margins.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Orion) for cost reporting.
• Knowledge of foreign‑exchange exposure and its impact on project economics.
• Familiarity with commercial risk registers and contract compliance procedures.
