About the role
The City of Cleveland is seeking qualified candidates to take a civil service examination for the Small Equipment Technician position. Successful candidates will join the public works team to maintain and repair a variety of small power equipment used across the city.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair power, gang, and hand mowers, as well as other small equipment powered by 2‑ or 4‑cycle engines.
- Dismantle equipment, replace worn or broken parts, lubricate moving components, and sharpen mower blades.
- Rebuild small gasoline‑powered motors and reassemble equipment for testing and preventive maintenance.
- Transport equipment to and from work sites as needed.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least three years of full‑time paid experience repairing and maintaining small equipment with 2‑ or 4‑cycle engines.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Willingness to work any shift, including overtime.
