Synchrolift Support Hand

About the role

The Synchrolift Support Hand provides hands‑on assistance for dry‑docking and undocking operations on the US Navy’s Synchrolift system located on Diego Garcia. The role combines line handling, equipment operation and qualified diving to ensure safe and efficient vessel movements.

Key responsibilities

• Handle lines, operate the capstan and drive transfer tractors during docking and undocking evolutions.
• Prepare, brief and execute detailed Dive Plans and Safety Briefs whenever underwater work is required.
• Perform inspections, routine maintenance and minor repairs on docking equipment and tools.
• Assist divers/swimmers with underwater tasks, supporting vessel alignment and securing.
• Coordinate with the Synchrolift team and supervisors to maintain safety standards and operational protocols.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to travel internationally.
• Pass all contract medical and diving‑related physical requirements.
• Prior experience in Synchrolift, line handling, or shipyard docking operations is preferred.
• Experience working in austere OCONUS environments with multinational crews is a plus.
