Traveling Land Surveyor – Full Time

About the role

Independence Excavating is seeking a full‑time Traveling Land Surveyor to support heavy civil construction and demolition projects. You will prepare, review, and approve survey data, cut sheets, and as‑built drawings while working both in the field and the office.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and verify cut sheets and as‑built documentation.
• Oversee initial site layout and continuously monitor work control lines and elevations.
• Provide accurate measurements for material installation and verify as‑built conditions using surveying techniques.
• Conduct topographic and cross‑section surveys for planning and payment quantities.
• Supervise Surveying Technicians and Trainees.
• Interpret drawings and specifications to make on‑site layout decisions.

Required profile

• High school diploma (additional training or certification preferred).
• Minimum five years of related surveying experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to job sites.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and occasional overtime.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Trimble GPS equipment, Trimble machine control, and Trimble total station.
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Ability to build surfaces for GPS equipment and apply surveying best practices.
• Strong mathematical and verbal communication abilities.
