Trial Attorney (Corporate/Financial Litigation)

About the role

The Corporate/Financial Litigation Section of the U.S. Department of Justice seeks experienced trial attorneys to represent the United States in complex litigation across bankruptcy, contract, and government loan matters. Attorneys will manage full‑cycle litigation in district, bankruptcy, and appellate courts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis for a variety of civil cases.
• Draft and file motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Manage written discovery and oversee electronic discovery processes.
• Take and defend depositions, attend hearings, and argue motions before the court.
• Conduct trials and present evidence on behalf of the United States.
• Communicate regularly with client agencies, DOJ leadership, and opposing counsel.
• Collaborate on individual and team cases to support the Department’s mission.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; must pass a background investigation and drug test.
• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least four (4) years of post‑J.D. legal experience for GS‑15 level.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, if required.
• Ability to work at any DOJ duty location nationwide; position is onsite.
