Chief Engineer - Hotel

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time Chief Engineer for a hotel on Thika Road. The post covers engineering and maintenance, team leadership, contractor supervision, budget control and energy and facilities management. The advertised salary is KShs 70,000.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day engineering and maintenance, ensuring electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical and building systems run efficiently and reliably.
• Develop preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate corrective and emergency maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Inspect plant rooms, equipment, guest areas and back-of-house areas, and keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
• Lead and supervise the engineering team, train and mentor technical staff, and monitor performance against safety and operational standards.
• Supervise contractors and vendors, evaluate quotations and support procurement of materials and equipment.
• Manage the engineering and maintenance budget, control use of materials and spare parts, and report on expenditure and outstanding works.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and statutory requirements, maintain technical licences and certificates, and promote safe working practices.
• Monitor utility consumption, improve energy efficiency, and support renovation and upgrade projects.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services Engineering or a related field.
• 5-8 years of experience in hotel engineering, facilities management, building maintenance or a similar environment.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance operations.
• Experience supervising technical teams and external contractors, and managing maintenance budgets and service contracts.
• Hotel or hospitality experience strongly preferred; relevant licences, certifications or professional memberships are an added advantage.
