About the role
The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire‑department vehicles and heavy equipment. This role ensures that fire trucks, ambulances, ARFF apparatus and associated machinery are safe, reliable, and ready for emergency response.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of fire vehicles, ARFF and ambulance apparatus.
- Conduct heavy‑equipment maintenance, including installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive tasks.
- Remove, replace, and inspect engines and mechanical units using computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Repair and overhaul hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems; rebuild cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and more.
- Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and service air‑conditioning systems.
- Document work orders, invoices, and equipment repair records.
- Follow safety policies, handle hazardous waste, and perform recovery operations as needed.
- Act as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, military or tactical environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions using electronic test equipment.
- Knowledge of diesel and heavy‑automotive repair, hydraulics theory, pulley and gear ratios.
- Proficiency reading schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Prefer experience with US military heavy vehicles, MHE, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, OEM standards, and EVT Level 1 certification.
