Stationary Engineer – US Navy Program (Diego Garcia)

About the role

Amentum is looking for a Stationary Engineer to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves operating, maintaining, and repairing a range of stationary equipment to ensure safe and efficient utility services for the installation.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain stationary engines, steam boilers, air compressors, generators and HVAC systems.
• Monitor equipment performance, conduct daily readings, adjust settings and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, repairs and part replacements on boilers, pumps, refrigeration units, compressors and related mechanical systems.
• Start, stop, regulate and monitor power generation, chilled water, fuel and steam distribution systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot air handling units, chillers, cooling towers and associated controls.
• Follow preventative maintenance schedules, record equipment logs and work orders using a CMMS.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, local laws and applicable US government and military regulations.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, making necessary adjustments or repairs.
• Assist in planning upgrades or replacements of aging equipment to improve efficiency and safety.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience operating, maintaining and repairing stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers and HVAC systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in stationary engineering or mechanical systems are a plus.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical and control systems for power generation and utility distribution.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues effectively.
• Familiarity with safety procedures and government regulations governing stationary systems.
• Experience using equipment logs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining validity and ability to travel internationally.
