Head of Engineering, Field Verification

About the role

Moniepoint is launching its operations in Kenya and needs a senior engineering leader to own the Field Verification platform. This platform underpins KYC, onboarding, loans, compliance and fraud detection by coordinating in‑person checks across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a cross‑functional squad (Engineering Manager, engineers, QA) to maintain and evolve the verification system.
• Define and execute the product roadmap, including trip/route optimisation, capacity management and a native mobile app.
• Design and improve API services, webhook integrations and assignment algorithms to ensure reliable, low‑latency verification results.
• Hire, mentor and grow the engineering team while fostering a high‑performance, lean culture.
• Collaborate with product, compliance, fraud and operations teams to align technical solutions with business goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading engineering teams building large‑scale, mission‑critical platforms.
• Background in fintech, KYC or related verification workflows is a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to ship reliable backend services and mobile‑enabled solutions.
• Comfort operating in a fast‑moving, resource‑constrained environment.

Required skills

• API design and implementation (RESTful services, webhooks).
• Web application development (mobile‑friendly interfaces).
• Experience with routing/assignment algorithms.
• Understanding of mobile app development principles (native or hybrid).
