Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway

About the role

Moniepoint Inc. is expanding its payment platform, Monnify, into Kenya and is looking for a senior engineering leader to own the technical direction of the Payment Gateway. The role will shape the architecture, scalability, security and developer experience of a platform that connects merchants to card networks, banks and payment aggregators across multiple markets.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical strategy, architecture and roadmap for the Monnify platform across all capability areas.
• Lead multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, establishing quality standards and building organisational capability.
• Own the end‑to‑end developer experience, including APIs, documentation, SDKs and integration ease.
• Drive platform evolution toward multi‑currency support and international scalability.
• Ensure platform reliability, scalability and security within a regulated environment.
• Partner with product, commercial and operations teams to align technical investments with business goals.
• Recruit, mentor and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to support rapid growth.

Required profile

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 5 years in engineering leadership or management roles.
• Proven ability to lead large, distributed engineering teams and deliver high‑volume, mission‑critical systems.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of API design, SDK development and documentation best practices.
• Experience building secure, highly scalable payment or financial platforms.
• Knowledge of multi‑currency systems and regulatory compliance in fintech.
