Health & Safety Specialist – Controls (Fixed-Term)

About the role

One Acre Fund’s Kenya program, operating under the Tupande brand, is seeking a risk and controls professional to lead internal controls design and manage health and safety across its factories in Kenya. This fixed‑term position will ensure food safety, workplace safety, and financial controls are robust and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain food safety systems such as HACCP, FSSC 22000 and GlobalG.A.P., and define related KPIs.
• Conduct regular factory inspections, including swab, chemical and moisture testing, and surprise audits of cleaning, allergen control and germ prevention.
• Test recall procedures to verify product traceability within four hours.
• Assess machinery safeguards, enforce stacking and fall‑protection rules, and brief visitors and contractors on safety protocols.
• Audit and train staff on occupational safety (OSHA) standards.
• Implement early‑stage quality checks for crops, calibrate field scales, reconcile inventory, and inspect transport containers for cleanliness.
• Design and operate financial control systems to protect assets across all factories.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of experience in risk, internal controls, or health & safety within an industrial or agricultural setting.
• Proven ability to design and monitor food safety and occupational safety programs.
• Strong analytical skills to investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
