Homebased Consultant - Psychiatrist

About the role

The International Organization for Migration seeks a qualified psychiatrist to work remotely, providing psychiatric evaluations for refugees and displaced persons. The consultant will assess mental health conditions, issue fitness‑to‑travel determinations, and produce comprehensive clinical reports in line with CDC and DSM guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations of all referred cases, including mental health disorders and substance‑use concerns.
• Classify identified conditions according to CDC guidelines for U.S.-bound refugee populations and DSM‑5 criteria.
• Prepare written recommendations for follow‑up care, treatment plans, and case management before and after resettlement.
• Issue clear fitness‑to‑travel determinations, noting any special travel requirements.
• Deliver detailed clinical reports within 21 days of evaluation, with expedited turnaround when required.
• Coordinate with panel physicians, government officials, and multidisciplinary teams as needed.

Required profile

• University degree in Medicine with specialization in Psychiatry.
• Minimum seven years of professional experience in psychiatric assessment and management.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations such as migrants, refugees, or displaced persons.
• Professional accreditation from a recognized medical or psychiatric association is an advantage.
• Prior experience in preparing fitness‑to‑travel assessments and clinical reports.

Required skills

• Proficiency with DSM‑5 classification system.
• Familiarity with CDC guidelines for refugee health assessments.
• Strong clinical report writing and documentation skills.
