Principal Internal Auditor

About the role

The Principal Internal Auditor leads internal audit operations and risk reviews at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), a full-time management-level position based in Nairobi. The role covers audit policy, coordination of audit assignments, safeguarding of assets and improvement of internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and review audit policies, strategies, standards and guidelines.
• Coordinate audit assignments in line with the approved audit work plan.
• Ensure accountability of records and documents and prepare audit papers.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress and effectiveness of actions taken on audit recommendations from internal and external audits.
• Coordinate information systems audit engagements, including testing and evaluation of programs, quality assurance and reporting of results.
• Prepare reports and analyses that communicate audit results for the relevant business conditions and risks.
• Safeguard the College's assets by verifying their existence, ownership and valuation.
• Review and evaluate internal audit controls, assess their adequacy and effectiveness and propose improvements.
• Undertake special audits and investigations and set up follow-up mechanisms.
• Implement new technologies and business applications.

Required profile

• Cumulative nine years of relevant work experience, including three years as Senior Internal Auditor or in a comparable position.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (Finance and Accounting option), or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
• CPA-K, ACCA, CIA or equivalent qualification from a recognised and accredited institution.
• Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors Kenya or another relevant professional body, in good standing.
• Certificate in a management course of at least four weeks from a recognised institution.
• Merit shown through work performance and results.
