Trial Attorney – US Court of International Trade

About the role

The Trial Attorney will represent the United States in first‑chair trial and appellate litigation before the Court of International Trade and the Federal Circuit. This senior legal position involves full case management from investigation through settlement or appeal.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all phases of trial and appellate cases, including fact investigation, expert coordination, discovery, depositions, and oral argument.
• Draft substantive and procedural briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
• Negotiate settlements and advise on settlement recommendations.
• Handle importer challenges to Customs decisions, tariff classifications, valuation disputes, and related trade‑law matters.
• Litigate issues arising from trade‑related proclamations, executive orders, treaties, and free‑trade agreements.
• Work closely with counsel from Federal client agencies and represent the government in licensing and duty‑collection actions.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; must pass background investigation and drug test.
• J.D. degree and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction.
• Minimum four years of post‑J.D. legal experience, preferably in litigation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, if required.
• Willingness to serve a possible two‑year trial period.
