Trial Attorney (Federal Programs Branch)

About the role

The Federal Programs Branch seeks experienced trial attorneys to handle high‑profile litigation across a broad range of federal matters. Attorneys will manage all phases of district‑court cases, working directly with client agencies and DOJ leadership to protect United States interests.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct full‑cycle district court litigation, including depositions, discovery, motions, and trials.
• Perform legal research, draft briefs, memoranda, and other court documents.
• Communicate regularly with client agencies, opposing counsel, and senior DOJ officials.
• Collaborate on individual and team cases, developing expert witness testimony and trial strategy.

Required profile

• J.D. or equivalent degree and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least four years of post‑J.D. legal experience for GS‑15 level.
• U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, and compliance with background and drug‑testing requirements.
• Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Required skills

• Proven advocacy and legal writing abilities.
• Experience drafting and arguing motions, handling discovery, and taking/defending depositions.
• Ability to develop expert witness testimony and conduct trials.
