WASH Specialist – Emergency Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (P-4)

About the role
The WASH Specialist (P-4) will support UNICEF’s emergency water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes, focusing on cholera and other public health emergencies. Working remotely, the specialist will collaborate with the Centre of Excellence in Nairobi and with regional and country offices to strengthen UNICEF’s capacity to deliver effective WASH interventions.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise on cholera and public health emergency response at global and field levels.
- Develop and review WASH emergency response plans and activities in partnership with country offices.
- Deliver technical assistance to ensure appropriate WASH support for acute emergencies and disease prevention programmes.
- Coordinate with other sections within the Centre of Excellence to align technical guidance and resources.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of WASH interventions in emergency contexts.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in public health, environmental health, water resources, or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in WASH, humanitarian response, or public health emergencies.
- Proven experience in cholera or similar disease outbreak response.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of additional UN languages is an asset.
Required skills
- WASH technical expertise, including water quality, sanitation systems, and hygiene promotion.
- Experience with emergency response frameworks and public health emergency protocols.
- Familiarity with UNICEF WASH guidelines and standards.
