About the role
The Agronomist Officer will support BIMAS Kenya Ltd’s agricultural loan portfolio by assessing farm viability, advising smallholder farmers, and linking them to markets and insurance services. The role combines field assessments, risk appraisal, and capacity‑building activities to ensure sustainable agricultural practices and healthy loan performance.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct farm plan reviews and viability assessments prior to loan approval.
- Provide risk‑mitigation advice on crop selection, weather patterns, and pest management.
- Facilitate connections between farmers, buyers, retail outlets, and insurance providers.
- Visit farms regularly to monitor performance, offer technical advice, and identify early warning signs.
- Gather field data to inform product development and improve loan offerings.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports on farm visits, risk observations, and stakeholder engagements.
Required profile
- Minimum age of 25 years.
- Diploma in Agronomy, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Crop Science or equivalent.
- At least grade C in KCSE.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in agronomy, agribusiness advisory, or working with smallholder farmers; experience with financial institutions is a plus.
- Good knowledge of Kenyan crops, soils, seasons, value chains, and climate‑smart agriculture.
- Valid certificate of good conduct (to be provided upon successful selection).
Required skills
- Training and facilitation abilities.
- Report writing.
- Motorcycle riding license.
- Proficiency with data‑collection tools.
