Assistant Medical Officer – Fixed‑Term (UN)

About the role

The Assistant Medical Officer will work in the United Nations Joint Medical Service at the Kakuma duty station, providing clinical care, coordinating medical evacuations, and supporting occupational health activities under the supervision of the Chief, Joint Medical Service.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver clinical services in the UNHCR clinic, including emergency assessment, treatment, immunizations, travel advice and 24/7 on‑call emergency response.
• Coordinate medical evacuations, manage medico‑administrative paperwork, and ensure compliance with UN medical policies and procedures.
• Supervise and support JMS nurses, oversee training programmes, and maintain relationships with local hospitals, private facilities and blood banks.
• Collect, analyse and visualise health data to produce reports that inform planning and decision‑making.

Required profile

• MBChB (or equivalent) with full registration to practice medicine in Kenya and at least two years of progressive clinical experience, including A&E or ICU work.
• Experience in occupational health, counselling or stress management is desirable, as is certification in occupational health and safety.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili (UN Level II) and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

• Data analysis and visualisation using charts, tables and graphs.
