Dental Assistant Intern – Hands‑On Experience

About the role

A leading dental clinic in Nairobi is offering an entry‑level Dental Assistant Internship for recent graduates and final‑year students. The role provides hands‑on exposure to chairside assistance, infection control, radiography, laboratory coordination and patient care in a busy, well‑established environment.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients, confirm appointments and escort them to the treatment suite.
• Prepare treatment rooms, set up instruments and materials for each procedure.
• Assist the dentist during procedures, anticipating needs under close supervision.
• Clean, sterilize and account for all instruments and equipment following infection‑control protocols.
• Observe and assist with dental X‑rays while adhering to radiation safety guidelines.
• Support laboratory case preparation, dispatch, receipt and record‑keeping.
• Update patient records, treatment notes and consent forms accurately.
• Help with front‑office tasks such as answering calls, scheduling appointments and handling billing queries.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Dental Assisting, Dental Technology, Oral Health or a related field, or final‑year student close to graduation.
• No prior work experience required; any clinical attachment is a plus.
• Warm, professional and caring attitude toward patients.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability and ability to stay calm in a busy clinic.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn, take direction and work as part of a team.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of dental instruments and their handling.
• Knowledge of infection‑control and hygiene standards.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and email).
• Familiarity with dental radiography procedures under supervision.
