Casual Cafeteria Worker – On‑Call (2026‑27)

About the role

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is seeking casual, on‑call Cafeteria Workers for the 2026‑27 school year. You will prepare and serve nutritious meals to students across the HRCE region, supporting the School Lunch Program and promoting healthy eating habits.

Key responsibilities

• Complete daily logs (temperature, cleaning, food quantities, compost).
• Place food orders with approved vendors when requested.
• Interact positively with students in the lunch line, respecting their food choices.
• Maintain food safety standards at all times.
• Prepare, serve, and plate meals according to the School Food and Nutrition Policy.
• Perform kitchen duties such as dishwashing, waste sorting, cleaning, and restocking supplies.
• Support the school recycling program and other ad‑hoc tasks.
• For delivery positions only: transport cafeteria orders to neighboring schools.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Food Safety Training (can be provided).
• Food‑service experience or training preferred.
• Understanding of food allergies and related conditions.
• Ability to work on‑call across various HRCE locations.
• Successful criminal records check with vulnerable sector and child abuse registry searches.

Required skills

• Basic Food Safety knowledge.
