Chief Finance Officer (SRI Executive)

About the role

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), a capacity-building institution founded in 1988 to inform economic policy in sub-Saharan Africa, is looking for a Chief Finance Officer in Nairobi. The role leads the General Shared Services Division, covering Finance, Procurement and Human Resource management, and sits alongside the Executive Director in the senior management team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the General Shared Services Division and advise the Executive Director on administration, finance and procurement risk
• Develop annual budgets, long- and short-term financial projections, and long-term financial strategies and investments
• Take the lead on fundraising and act as custodian of risk management, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, donor terms and conditions
• Manage treasury: investment strategy, currency risk, Treasurer's report, fund transfers, reimbursements and insurance
• Ensure financial controls, value for money and audit processes work, including annual attest audit and special donor audits
• Oversee grants, including institutional and conference grants
• Oversee human resources: strategy, recruitment, pay and benefits, performance reviews, training and grievance handling, in line with local labour and tax laws
• Lead procurement governance, risk management, KPIs and contract management

Required profile

• Master's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
• Certified Accountant
• At least ten years' experience in a managerial position with progressive experience in financial resources
