Cost Accountant – Project Cost Management

About the role

The Cost Accountant will provide real‑time financial visibility for ongoing projects, helping management and project teams make informed decisions before project completion. This role ensures that cost overruns, budget variances, and margin erosion are identified early, supporting the profitability of each project and the overall portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Track project costs in real time as they are incurred.
• Monitor actual, committed and forecast costs against approved budgets.
• Identify cost overruns, budget variances and margin erosion at an early stage.
• Provide cost‑to‑complete forecasts and early loss indications.
• Supply project managers with timely financial data for corrective actions.
• Maintain and update product/project costing and standard costs.
• Capture and analyse material, labour, installation, procurement and overhead costs.
• Lead month‑end cost reconciliations, journal entries, COGS and cost reporting.
• Prepare monthly cost, profitability and management reports.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Operations and Projects to identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Maintain accurate costing data within the ERP/accounting system.
• Support internal and external audits and financial controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CPA, ACCA, CMA or equivalent professional qualification (or progress towards one).
• Minimum 2 years of cost accounting or project cost management experience.
• Experience in project/product costing, inventory reconciliation, cost allocation, variance analysis and margin monitoring.
• Proven ability to work with Finance, Procurement, Operations and Project teams to control costs.

What we offer

• Competitive monthly salary between KES 60,000 and KES 75,000.
