Credit Controller – Construction Sector (Nairobi)

About the role
The Credit Controller will manage the end‑to‑end order‑to‑cash cycle for a leading construction‑focused company in Nairobi. The role ensures accurate billing, effective credit control, collections, and compliance with Kenyan tax regulations, protecting working capital and cash flow.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and issue accurate invoices based on contracts, LPOs, delivery notes, milestones and approved variations.
- Drive debt collection, monitor debtor ageing and meet monthly collection targets.
- Assess customer creditworthiness, set credit limits and payment terms, and track exposure.
- Perform customer account reconciliations and allocate receipts, including retentions, advances and guarantees.
- Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax requirements such as VAT, eTIMS, withholding tax and iTax.
- Produce ageing, DSO, cash‑flow and other receivables reports for management.
- Deputise for the Head of Finance, support month‑end close, budgeting and cash‑flow forecasting.
- Supervise junior finance staff and maintain finance controls, policies and segregation of duties.
- Assist internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax compliance (VAT, eTIMS, withholding VAT, withholding tax, iTax).
- Experience with month‑end close, management accounts, cash‑flow forecasting and statutory compliance.
- Understanding of IFRS 15 and IFRS 9, preferably in a project‑based environment.
Required skills
- Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliations, reporting).
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems.
- Knowledge of Kenyan tax systems (VAT, eTIMS, withholding tax, iTax).
- Familiarity with IFRS 15 and IFRS 9.
