Director of Engineering

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will lead One Acre Fund’s technology transformation, focusing on mobile‑based tools for field staff, scalable communication channels with farmers, and decentralized data collection. You will shape the engineering vision and turn it into a core organizational strength across multiple development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Set and steer engineering strategy in partnership with the CTO, Product, AI Enablement, and InfoSec, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Build a high‑performing engineering practice that embraces continuous delivery, automated testing, observability, and security by default.
• Lead a team of ~50 engineers, directly managing 5+ engineering managers, and drive professional growth and culture.
• Deliver impactful software products, scaling the Farmer360 identity platform and defining system architecture.
• Partner with the AI Enablement team to embed AI capabilities and co‑own the Azure‑to‑AWS cloud migration.

Required profile

• 10+ years building software solutions, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership with delivery and people‑management accountability.
• Deep, hands‑on experience with AWS (cloud migration experience a plus) and familiarity with Azure.
• Proven application of DORA‑led engineering health metrics, continuous delivery, SRE, and platform engineering.
• Broad stack competence across modern web (TypeScript/React), mobile (Android, offline‑first), and backend (Java/Kotlin, Go, Node.js, Python).
• Experience designing and operating transactional and analytical data systems at scale.
