Education and Technology Researcher

About the role

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is seeking an Education and Technology Researcher to join its Human Development Theme in Nairobi. The role focuses on generating evidence on the use of digital innovations, including artificial intelligence, in African basic education and translating findings into policy‑relevant recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen APHRC’s knowledge base on technology use and impact in education, with emphasis on responsible AI deployment.
• Lead or co‑lead research studies and rigorous evaluations of digital tools in African basic education.
• Contribute to project management, policy engagement and strategic planning to ensure research informs practice.
• Develop funding proposals and maintain partnerships with local and international stakeholders.
• Assess efficacy, equity and ethical implications of digital technologies in low‑resource settings.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (e.g., PhD or Master) in Education, Development Studies, Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience conducting research on digital education solutions in low‑resource contexts.
• Strong track record of publishing evidence‑based policy briefs or reports.
• Ability to engage with policymakers, educators and technology developers.
• Experience in securing research funding and managing multi‑partner projects.
