Financial Crime Systems Analyst

About the role

Safaricom is seeking a Financial Crime Systems Analyst to manage and optimise its anti‑money‑laundering (AML) and fraud detection platforms. You will ensure these systems operate efficiently, meet regulatory standards, and support the broader risk‑management strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, configure, and maintain AML, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, fraud detection, and case management systems.
• Monitor system performance, recommend enhancements, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
• Validate data feeds and interfaces to guarantee data quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
• Tune detection rules, thresholds, and risk indicators to reduce false positives while maintaining compliance.
• Support the implementation of AI, machine learning, and behavioural monitoring solutions to automate investigations.
• Participate in system upgrades, testing, and change‑management activities, gathering business requirements as needed.

Required profile

• Relevant degree in Business, Engineering, IT or a related field, with professional qualifications.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a software engineer, developer, or data scientist.
• Proficiency in data analysis and trend profiling using Power BI or Qlik Sense.
• Strong understanding of AML processes, detection optimisation, and regulatory requirements.
