Grants Management Officer

About the role

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking an entry‑level Grants Management Officer to support its resource mobilisation efforts. The role will involve working closely with researchers and administrative teams to identify funding opportunities and manage the grant lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, research, and track potential funding sources from donors, foundations, and development partners.
• Assist in preparing, reviewing, and submitting concept notes, expressions of interest, grant applications, and related proposals.
• Maintain communication with existing and prospective donors, partners, and research institutions.
• Update and manage databases of funding opportunities, donor contacts, submitted proposals, and funding decisions.
• Compile institutional information, develop proposal budgets, and ensure supporting documents meet donor requirements.
• Track proposal timelines, funding deadlines, donor feedback, and follow up on pending requests.
• Prepare periodic reports on resource mobilisation activities, proposals submitted, and funds secured.
• Provide administrative and logistical support for donor meetings and related events.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Science, Social Sciences, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Strong planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in standard computer applications and relevant digital tools.
