About the role
The Health Specialist will support UNICEF’s vaccine‑preventable disease initiatives in Kenya, focusing on measles, rubella and yellow fever. Reporting to the Senior Adviser Health, Accelerated Disease Control, the incumbent will work within the Measles and Rubella Partnership (M&RP) and the Eliminate Yellow fever Epidemics (EYE) programme.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to country and regional offices on vaccine‑preventable disease control strategies.
- Support policy development, programme design and monitoring for measles, rubella and yellow fever initiatives.
- Coordinate with partners, governments and UN agencies to ensure alignment with UNICEF’s global health standards.
- Prepare evidence‑based reports, briefs and recommendations for senior management.
- Contribute to the Global Programme Division’s knowledge hub and Centre of Excellence activities.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in public health, epidemiology, medicine or a related field.
- Minimum five years of professional experience in vaccine‑preventable disease control, preferably in an international or UN setting.
- Fluency in French and English (both written and spoken).
- Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural teams and to travel as required.
Required skills
- Knowledge of vaccine‑preventable disease surveillance and control mechanisms.
- Experience with programme monitoring, evaluation and policy analysis.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing abilities.
