Librarian (US Navy Program Support)

About the role

Amentum is looking for a Librarian to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves managing daily library operations and delivering high‑quality informational, educational, and recreational resources to military personnel and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all library operations, ensuring the facility is clean, well‑maintained, and welcoming.
• Assist patrons in locating resources, conducting research, and using library systems and equipment.
• Manage the collection through cataloguing, organizing, and maintaining materials according to library science principles.
• Monitor inventory, update the catalog, and implement measures to preserve resource availability.
• Develop and promote programs and services that align with MWR objectives and community needs.
• Conduct workshops, literacy events, and cultural activities for library users.
• Train and mentor support staff and volunteers to ensure consistent, high‑quality service.
• Maintain accurate records of check‑outs, memberships, returns, and overdue items.
• Stay current with emerging library technologies and integrate appropriate tools.
• Enforce library policies to maintain a respectful environment.

Required profile

• Four‑year degree in Library Science or related field, OR two years of relevant library experience with a high school diploma.
• Familiarity with cataloguing systems, digital resource management, and library organization principles.
• Strong communication and customer‑service skills for effective patron interaction.
• Ability to read, speak, and comprehend English for contract performance and emergency procedures.
• Willingness to complete required training and certifications (Customer Service, CPR, First Aid, etc.).
